Indoor Play Ideas for Rainy Days: Dogs and Cats

When the weather keeps you indoors, pets still need exercise for body and mind. A few simple games can burn energy and keep them happy.

For dogs

• Hide treats around the room for a quick sniff hunt
• Roll a wobbling ball and let your dog chase it
• Play a gentle indoor game of tug
• Practise a few tricks for five minutes at a time

For cats

• Drag a toy slowly across the floor so your cat can stalk it
• Roll a lightweight ball down the hallway
• Place a cardboard box on the floor for exploring
• Use a feather wand for short, active bursts

Keep it safe

Always supervise play, remove broken toys and give water afterwards. Short, fun sessions of five to ten minutes are better than one long one.
